About
Dreamt into being by my grandmothers.

At the most unforgiving borders
For over two decades, I have served across the United Nations and international NGOs—driving food security and refugee initiatives in the Great Lakes Region, championing child rights advocacy in Geneva, and building community alongside refugees and minority ethnic women in the UK.
As a Montessori Directress, my life's work weaves institutional depth with grounded, relational pedagogy.
Again and again, I have stood with people at the most unforgiving of borders: between homelands, between war and peace, between who they were and who they must now become. I have witnessed what forced migration takes, and what mercy can restore.
In 2003, I was recognised by Queen Elizabeth II as a Pioneer of the Nation in the Voluntary Sector.
I see through a diasporic lens, as someone who belongs to more than one place and fully to none. Alongside my inherited lineage, I trained as a global mystic with Andrew Harvey, Mirabai Starr and other respected guides.
I have led circles and co-woven Eldering Councils where other ways of knowing are honoured, where story, ritual and deep listening carry as much authority as strategy and structure.
Always, I am working to "store ease" in the stories we speak, hold, imagine, nurture and exhale.
A living poem. A loving prayer.
I was born of confluences: the places where one thing meets another and both are changed.
My maternal grandmother took my small hand when I was eight years old, initiating me onto a path that has spent more than forty years deepening through loss, growth, and the slow turning of seasons and cycles.
My paternal grandmother crossed the veil in a refugee camp, yet she found me across the mist, speaking to me through the language of dreams.
When I sat with this collage, the sediment of her river rose up to meet me—ancient, unsettled, instructions that carry powerful medicine.
I stand within African-rooted lineages that honour entangled ecosystems as sacred: human, ancestral, more-than-human and the Earth itself.
Living at the threshold
I was born in Dar es Salaam, the "haven of peace". My life has followed its tides across four continents and cultures, into new ways of belonging. I have learned that migration is not only leaving. It is also carrying home within you, and becoming a haven for others along the way.
When some are excited about lighthouses, I am about the port.

When relationships change, organisations change.
When organisations change, systems begin to change.”

Kind words
“Yolanda has a capacity for words and for love which communicates itself in the written word and yet when she is experienced in her whole personhood this is magnified a hundredfold. Her presence radiates an energy which is difficult to describe to anyone who has not experienced it at first hand. It is an expansive love filled soul energy in which the expression on her face, the inflection of a word, the gesture of her hand can communicate in a way that directly touches the heart and soul of the other and speaks to them of things for which they may have no rational understanding.
Her presence becomes a gift which blesses all of those within its field, at levels which may well transcend conscious awareness yet still resound within one’s consciousness. She is a blessing to all of us who have walked beside her along the way. Though I normally would only speak for myself I have a great confidence in saying that. Such is the nature of her being.”
Through your gift, you help me discover the depths of my own being, reminding me of the profound interconnectedness I share with the universe. You embrace the unknown, exploring the depths of our souls, and unearthing the profound truths that lie dormant within each of us in a conscious act of alchemy. You have an uncanny ability to articulate the ethereal, transforming the intangible into tangible emotions that we can all grasp.
When Yolanda speaks I listen.
I feel a resonance in her voice and words that take me. The best way to describe it is ‘as a blessing.’
Yolanda
Love You, and your insight, experience, wisdom, humility, vulnerability and goddessness…
Glad to be in the presence of an authentic divine human… want to join any conversation You are leading.
Yolanda is a serious (and very joyful) force of Love in this world. She is a gifted writer and every word she writes inspires us to enter the heart of Love more fully.
Yolanda Sokiri is a brilliant and big hearted force of nature. Her mind is a beautiful place to be.
I feel your vast and spacious heart, so directly and fully, and have been incredibly grateful to be with you and your words, both written and spoken.
